# Bolt.new Alternatives (2026): 3 Compared

> Source: https://theagentsindex.com/bolt-new/alternatives (curated, quality-gated, re-verified)

Bolt.new's WebContainers runtime is a genuine technical edge — it runs a full Node.js environment natively inside the browser tab, so a prompted app boots and previews with no remote VM. But Bolt's own listing names two concrete gaps in its "not for" line: "teams that need a programmatic API to drive builds from their own code, or buyers who want assurance of responsive customer support before paying, given the vendor's current 1.5/5 Trustpilot record." That second point isn't a vague knock — Bolt's own cons cite 189 Trustpilot reviews averaging 1.5/5 with recurring complaints about slow or unresponsive support on billing and account issues, and Bolt's own verdict recommends looking elsewhere for exactly this reason: "pick Replit Agent instead if you want a similar zero-setup experience with a more conventional cloud-VM backend, or Cursor/Windsurf if you want an agent inside your own local toolchain rather than a hosted app factory." The three tools below are independently researched, Published listings on this site, each re-verified for current pricing, and each answers a distinct piece of Bolt's own named gap rather than repeating the same pitch.

| # | Name | What it is | Pricing | API |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | [Replit Agent](https://theagentsindex.com/replit-agent.md) | Describe an app and Replit Agent builds, tests and deploys it in your browser — a full-stack app factory for anyone. | Free | No |
| 2 | [Cursor](https://theagentsindex.com/cursor.md) | The AI-first code editor (a VS Code fork) — an agent reads, plans and edits across your whole codebase. Free Hobby tier, Pro from $20/month. | Free | No |
| 3 | [Claude Code](https://theagentsindex.com/claude-code.md) | Anthropic’s terminal-native coding agent with full-repository context and real command execution — included from the $17/month Claude Pro plan. | $17 / month (billed annually; $20 billed monthly) | Yes |

## Methodology

We drew alternatives from this site's coding-agents category (15 Published listings), the same corpus used for this site's other coding-agent alternatives pages, and started from the two candidates Bolt's own verdict names by name: Replit Agent and Cursor. Windsurf was excluded despite being named in that same verdict line — its own listing documents an unrelated identity crisis (Codeium → Windsurf → Devin Desktop, Cascade agent retired 1 July 2026), which would trade one vendor-trust concern for another rather than resolve Bolt's. In its place we added Claude Code, whose structured `apiAvailable: true` field and CLI-native, CI-scriptable design directly answer Bolt's specific "no public API to drive builds programmatically" con — neither Replit Agent nor Cursor exposes a build API either, so without Claude Code that half of Bolt's own named gap would go unanswered. GitHub Copilot, Aider, OpenCode, Cline, Zot and Juggler were excluded as weaker matches for Bolt's specific shape: Bolt is a prompt-to- deployed-app browser builder for people with no local toolchain, and those six are either IDE-embedded or terminal tools built around an existing local repo, not a zero-setup app factory. Devin and Sierra were excluded as enterprise-delegation and customer-support platforms respectively — a different buying motion than Bolt's prompt-to-app builder entirely.
