Shortlist

Closest alternatives to Muse Code

Best match first. How we rank

  1. 01

    Devin

Cloud AI software engineer that takes a ticket, works in its own VM, and opens a pull request.

    From Free

Why it's on this listReviews code · YesDevin Review reviews pull requests anyone authored, reorganising and explaining large diffs in the Devin webapp.Source ↗

Where it improves on Muse Code

    • +Whole-codebase work · YesMigrations spanning many files, modules or whole repositories are the stated use for fanning work out to parallel sessions.Source ↗
    • +Claude · YesAnthropic models are selectable in Devin CLI, where opus and sonnet resolve to the latest in each family.Source ↗

    Trade-offs against Muse Code

    • −Opt out of training · PartlyTraining is on by default and the opt-out is paid-plans-only; opting out also enables Zero Data Retention with the model providers.Source ↗
  2. 02

    Codex CLI

OpenAI's terminal coding agent for inspecting, editing and running repository code from the shell.

    From Free

Why it's on this listOpenAI's terminal-native agent and the closest peer in the model-vendor-owns-the-CLI category. Apache-2.0 open source, but usage is bundled into a ChatGPT account and drawn from that plan's pooled credits, with pay-as-you-go top-ups after limits. OpenAI's own docs put typical cost at $100-$200 per developer per month for active use — meaningfully above Muse Code's Standard rate on input tokens, comparable on output. There is no Contributor-style data-for-discount tier: ChatGPT Plus, Pro and Business are the only published plans. Best fit if you want OpenAI as your model vendor and the same terminal-first shape, with a published bundled price rather than Muse Code's per-token variability.

Where it improves on Muse Code

    • +Reviews code · Yes/review runs a dedicated reviewer over a diff, commit or branch without editing the tree.Source ↗
    • +GPT · YesGPT-5.6 Sol, Terra and Luna are all marked available in Codex CLI, selected with --model.Source ↗
    • +Open models · Yes--oss runs Codex against a local Ollama or LM Studio provider.Source ↗

    Trade-offs against Muse Code

    • −Pooled budget · PartlyCredit-based workspace agreements draw from one shared pool; individual plans have per-user rate limits instead.Source ↗
    • −Opt out of training · PartlyBusiness, Enterprise and API-key usage are not trained on by default; the same matrix marks Plus and Pro unavailable.Source ↗
  3. 03

    Cline

Open-source coding agent for VS Code, JetBrains, the terminal and CI, running on whichever model you bring.

    From Free

Why it's on this listThe open-source (Apache-2.0) BYOK alternative if you want more surface than a pure terminal: editor, terminal and SDK, with an optional ClinePass ($9.99/month) for flat-rate access to curated open-weight models. Like Aider, the core is free with zero platform markup and you bring your own key, so the cost ceiling is the same per-token shape Muse Code sells. Unlike Aider, Cline adds GUI surface and a hosted usage-billing path (Cline, 100+ models) for teams that don't want to manage keys at all. Best fit if you want Muse Code's per-token honesty but prefer a GUI agent in your editor to a pure CLI loop.

Where it improves on Muse Code

    • +Reviews code · YesIt reviews diffs someone else wrote, either interactively on files and pull requests or unattended in GitHub Actions posting a review comment.Source ↗
    • +Whole-codebase work · YesRepository-wide migrations are a stated use case, though the vendor is explicit that it never indexes a repo and instead uses partial-file analysis and summarisation.Source ↗
    • +Claude · YesClaude is supported and is the vendor's recommended coding model, reachable through Cline's own billing, through Anthropic directly, or via Bedrock and Vertex.Source ↗

    Trade-offs against Muse Code

    • −Pooled budget · PartlyOrganisation members draw on providers and billing configured centrally by an admin, and spend is reported per team and per member, but no per-seat budget cap is documented.Source ↗
    • −Opt out of training · PartlyCline states it never trains on your code, and BYOK keeps requests out of its infrastructure entirely, but its privacy notice puts training on whichever model provider you choose and their opt-out.Source ↗
  4. 04

    OpenHands

Open-source software engineering agent with GUI, CLI, SDK and an enterprise control plane.

    From Free

Why it's on this listReviews code · YesA dedicated PR review workflow reads someone else's diff and posts inline comments on the pull request within minutes.Source ↗

Where it improves on Muse Code

    • +Done-for-you service · PartlySoftware you run yourself, but the vendor also sells advisory and implementation engagements that deploy agents alongside your team.Source ↗
    • +Claude · YesClaude Sonnet, Opus and Haiku are all sold through the vendor's own LLM proxy, and can equally be reached with your own Anthropic key.Source ↗

    Trade-offs against Muse Code

    • −Multi-agent · PartlyA parent agent can delegate to sub-agents, but the documented TaskToolSet runs them sequentially and blocks, so it is delegation rather than parallel coordination.Source ↗
    • −Opt out of training · PartlyRunning it locally or self-hosted keeps code out of vendor hands entirely, but the cloud privacy policy reserves model training on your content with no opt-out published.Source ↗
  5. 05

    Kilo Code

Open source AI coding agent for VS Code, JetBrains, CLI and cloud, with 500+ models at provider rates.

    From Free

Why it's on this listReviews code · YesKilo Code Reviewer analyses pull requests and comments in the PR.Source ↗

Where it improves on Muse Code

    • +Whole-codebase work · YesIndexes the repository and runs multi-step repo-wide work such as migrations.Source ↗
    • +Claude · YesClaude models are in the hosted catalogue and available via an Anthropic BYOK key.Source ↗

    Trade-offs against Muse Code

    • −Agent permissions · PartlyAuto-approve exists, but the OS-level sandbox that bounds it is experimental and Linux/macOS only.Source ↗
    • −API access · PartlyCloud Agent sessions can be launched by HTTP webhook and usage data has documented OpenAPI endpoints; no public API for driving the agent itself is documented.Source ↗
    • −Admin controls · PartlyTeams gets data-privacy controls on models and providers; allowlists, RBAC and policy enforcement are Enterprise.Source ↗
  6. 06

    Augment Code

Cosmos platform running fleets of coding agents across the SDLC, plus Auggie CLI and IDE extensions.

    From $100/month

Why it's on this listReviews code · YesDeep Reviewer, Pair Reviewer and Risk Analyzer experts review pull requests and post inline findings.Source ↗

Where it improves on Muse Code

    • +Whole-codebase work · YesPublished workflows cover module-by-module legacy migration and epic decomposition across repositories.Source ↗
    • +Claude · YesClaude Opus, Sonnet, Haiku and Fable families are all selectable.Source ↗

    Trade-offs against Muse Code

    • −Free tier · PartlyNo free plan is published; pricing lists only Business at $100/month and Enterprise. Business is self-serve, though, and trials are referenced.Source ↗
    • −API access · PartlyAuggie TypeScript/Python SDKs drive the agent from your own code; the Analytics API is Enterprise-only preview.Source ↗
    • −Opt out of training · PartlyPaid plans exclude AI training on your data, but the Community terms grant Augment the right to train on Customer Code.Source ↗
